FICS Research is well-known and regarded as a global leader in hardware security and systems security research. While high-powered, high-dollar research is certainly one of the main thrusts of FICS Research’s activities, there is another that garners less recognition—workforce development.

We regret to announce that ECE Professor Emeritus Don Childers passed away Sept. 29. He started at UF in 1965, served as interim chair of the department in 1977, and retired in 1996.

In the culmination of a three-year competition cycle, Team GatorWings beat ten other teams in the DARPA Spectrum Collaboration Challenge (SC2) to win first place, taking home a $2M prize.

Professor Vladimir Rakov was recently awarded the Richard R. Stoddart Award for Outstanding Performance at the 2019 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, Signal & Power Integrity (EMC & SPI). He was honored for “Outstanding Contributions to the field of lightning research.”
