Dr. Joel Harley joined the faculty of ECE Florida in January of 2018 as an assistant professor in the Signals and Systems area.

Y.K. Yoon, Associate Professor at ECE Florida, has developed an IoT device which is capable of harvesting data directly from the human mouth, enabling real-time health data, delivered via bluetooth to a smart phone. His work was recently featured on WCJB.

Sandip Ray joined the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the beginning of 2018, as an endowed IoT (Internet of Things) Term Professor. He is also part of the core faculty of the Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World, commonly referred to as the IOT Institute.

Dr. Martin Uman recently delivered the invited conference keynote speech at the 2018 ILDC/ILMC and was also awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for outstanding leadership and significant contributions to the lightning community.

The nation’s top cybersecurity experts convened at the University of Florida to discuss the latest developments in network, software and hardware security. The core message? Collaboration is key.

The push to share new ideas, emerging solutions – and even, potential threats – with the cybersecurity community echoed throughout the two-day conference, hosted by the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity Research (FICS Research) at UF.

Congratulations are in order for Huikai Xie, ECE Florida, just promoted to Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). Dr. Xie is recognized for his achievements in optical MEMS and optical endoscopic imaging.

Dr. Roozbeh Tabrizian has received an NSF CAREER Award for his project, “Active Nano-Acoustic Waveguide Matrix to Tackle Signal Processing Limits: Enabling Wideband and Nonreciprocal Integrated Communication Beyond the UHF.”

NPR’s RadioLab featured Dr. Martin Uman on a Dec. 20 episode, “Big Little Questions.” In the quirky and personal segment, Dr. Uman identifies a strange phenomenon as ball lightning and goes on to describe it as a “well documented mystery.”
