In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’ve taken the time to compile some of ECE Florida’s women inventors (patent holders).

ECE Florida is proud to welcome two new members to our faculty—both of whom have been recognized as ‘Rising Stars’ by the MIT-launched Rising Star program. Dr. Shreya Saxena and Dr. Najme Embrahimi both officially started Jan. 1.

Dr. Damon Woodard has accepted a position as Director of AI Partnerships for the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.

Hosted by the Warren B. Nelms Institute for the Connected World, the first annual Women in IoT Workshop, “Leading through Change,” took place virtually Oct. 12.

ECE Florida staff engineer Mike Stapleton is collaborating with volunteers to create low-cost, open-source ventilators for use in the fight against COVID-19.

Beloved ECE engineer and teaching faculty Bill Wagner passed away on June 26. Bill taught in the teaching lab from 1985 to 2002.

Swarup Bhunia, Ph.D., has been named as Director of the Institute and the Sachio Semmoto Professor. My T. Thai, Ph.D., a UF Research Foundation Professor, has been selected as the Associate Director of the Institute.

On the third floor of Benton Hall, Dr. Yier Jin and his students have built a massive, interconnected virtual city out of Lego bricks which will be used to further research in the area of IoT and cybersecurity.

Thursday, April 26 found ECE Florida hosting its External Advisory Board. This group of industry leaders, ECE alumni and ECE faculty comes together annually to provide real-world advice and feedback regarding ECE Florida’s program, direction, and future.
