Roger T. Howe is the William E. Ayer Professor Emeritus in the Dept. of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. “Applications of Quantum Electrochemical Spectroscopy to Disease Diagnosis and Drug Development” Friday, Feb. 2 at 11:00am in the Malachowsky Hall Nvidia Auditorium.

Dr. Mingyue Ji is currently an associate professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah. He presents “AI at the Edge: Analysis, Operation, and Implementation” Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 1:00pm in LAR 234.

Dr. Suren Jayasuriya is an assistant professor at Arizona State University’s Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering Department. He presents “Towards Acoustic Cameras: Neural Deconvolution and Rendering for Synthetic Aperture Sonar” Thursday, Feb. 15 at 1:00pm in LAR 234.

Yangbin Wang Rising Star Endowed Assistant Professor Farimah Farahmandi has received funding from the Office of Naval Research in support of her project “Optimized System Design for Assurance and Life-Cycle Management (SaLEM).”

In a tribute to ECE alumnus David B. Vozzola (BSEE ’63), David E. Vozzola and Doreen M. Vozzola have established the David B. Vozzola Innovation Fund to foster innovation, research, and teaching within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. With the $125,000 philanthropic pledge, David E. Vozzola seeks to honor his father, a proud lifelong Gator Engineer.

Dr. Rickard Ewetz is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of Central Florida. He presents “Towards Efficient and Artificial General Intelligence using In-Memory Computing” Tuesday, Jan. 23 at 1:00pm in LAR 234.

Dr. Jie Xu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Miami. He presents “Federated Learning via Indirect Communications” Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 1:00pm in LAR 234.

The US Department of Defense (DoD) recently announced the 2024 funded DURIP projects under the DURIP. ECE Florida faculty submitted a number of proposals and four were ultimately chosen for funding.

Two ECE Florida faculty members, Dr. Swarup Bhunia and Dr. Volker Sorger, have been elevated to the rank of life fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of the prestigious grade elevation. 

ECE Florida Assistant Professor Baoyun Ge has received an NSF CAREER Award for his project “Guided Exploration of Multiphysics Design Space for Electric Machines Using Tensorial Analysis (GEOMETRY).”
