Ivan Ruchkin, Ph.D., has received funding from the NSF in support of his CAREER project “Rigorous Assumption Engineering for Learning-Enabled Cyber-Physical Systems.”

Two new faculty endowments promise to supercharge research at ECE Florida, providing critical support for two of the department’s highest-performing researchers.

ECE Assistant Professor Md Jahidul Islam has been named the Yangbin Wang Rising Star Professor, a recognition of his cutting-edge research and impactful student mentoring. Dr. Islam becomes the twentieth ECE faculty member to be supported by an endowed professorship.

Dr. Roozbeh Tabrizian has been selected to be inducted as a 2024 Rising Star by the Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida. The organization honored Tabrizian for “pioneering advancements in semiconductor nano-electro-mechanical systems enabling transformative innovations in microwave spectral processing and precision timekeeping.”

ECE Assistant Professor Farimah Farahmandi was honored to receive a 2024 Design Automation Conference (DAC) Under-40 Innovators Award at the most recent conference, sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

With the beginning of the fall semester, ECE Florida’s faculty has grown by five. The department extends a hearty welcome to (L-R) Dr. Mingyue Ji, Dr. Jie Xu, Dr. Rickard Ewetz, Dr. Dennis Kim, and Dr. Laura Kim.

ECE Associate Professor Hamed Dalir was elected as a Fellow of the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAAM) in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of nanomaterials science and technology with dedication to indium thin oxide (ITO) and graphene for high-speed applications.

Dr. Farimah Farahmandi has been named as the inaugural holder of the Walden C. Rhines Endowed Professorship for Hardware Security. Farahmandi is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and also serves as the associate director of the Florida Institute for Hardware Security (FICS) Research.

Two ECE Florida faculty members, Dr. Swarup Bhunia and Dr. Volker Sorger, have been elevated to the rank of life fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of the prestigious grade elevation.
