From the Swamp to Capitol Hill, UF student talks engineering with lawmakers
April 20, 2026As part of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), UF freshman Jayden Nargen traveled to Washington, D.C., for IEEE-USA’s Congressional Visit Day, joining engineers from across the country to meet with lawmakers and advocate for policies impacting research funding and STEM workforce development.

Meet Rikki DeOreo, MATLAB’s new ambassador and peer mentor
April 9, 2026Second-year electrical engineering student Rikki DeOreo is helping fellow Gators master MATLAB as the University of Florida’s new MathWorks Student Ambassador and a peer mentor in Programming for Engineers. Through workshops, mentoring and a new MATLAB Student Club, she’s sharing her technical skills while building a supportive learning community.

ECE ‘star Gator’ Farimah Farahmandi wins 40 Under 40 alumni award
March 5, 2026Farimah Farahmandi, Ph.D., Walden C. Rhines Endowed Professor for Hardware Security and associate director of the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity, has received UF’s 40 Under 40 alumni award. In April, Farahmandi will also receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from UF’s Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering.
