A team of ten UF researchers, led by Dr. Yong-Kyu Yoon, is supporting 1 of only 10 NSF Engines: “Central Florida Semiconductor Innovation Engine.”

Dr. Hamed Dalir’s CHIP Lab at the University of Florida published a new paper in Nature Communications Physics showcasing their groundbreaking research on integrating machine learning within optical networks.

A diverse team led by three ECE Florida faculty members is set to receive funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to design and fabricate dynamic pressure sensors capable of performing at temperatures upwards of 800 °C (1472 °F), over a factor of 6X higher than any integrated pressure sensor currently in use.

Walden C. Rhines Endowed Assistant Professor for Hardware Security Farimah Farahmandi has received an NSF CAREER award in support of her project “SAIF: Security Assurance through AI and Formal Approaches for System-on-Chips.”

Yangbin Wang Rising Star Endowed Assistant Professor Farimah Farahmandi has received funding from the Office of Naval Research in support of her project “Optimized System Design for Assurance and Life-Cycle Management (SaLEM).”

The US Department of Defense (DoD) recently announced the 2024 funded DURIP projects under the DURIP. ECE Florida faculty submitted a number of proposals and four were ultimately chosen for funding.

ECE Florida Assistant Professor Baoyun Ge has received an NSF CAREER Award for his project “Guided Exploration of Multiphysics Design Space for Electric Machines Using Tensorial Analysis (GEOMETRY).”

Dr. Philip Feng, ECE professor and associate chair for research, has been named as the inaugural Walden C. Rhines Endowed Professor for Quantum Engineering. The endowment will support Dr. Feng’s research program, focused on quantum engineering, novel materials, and nanoelectricalmechanical devices (NEMS), as well as the creation of the Florida Quantum Initiative. 

ECE Assistant Professor Elham Heidari has received a $300k grant from AFWERX, a program of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force, in support of her project “Emerging Trends in High-Capacity Optical Transceivers: A Focus on Monolithic Integration.”

Dr. Damon Woodard and Dr. Domenic Forte are spearheading a groundbreaking $992k initiative—funded by the Office of the President of the University of Florida—with the overarching goal of propelling the University of Florida to the forefront of national security research, policy formulation, and workforce development.
