The Electric E and Computer E Awards are the most prestigious awards granted by the department. To receive these awards, a student must have a minimum upper division grade point average of 3.90 as well as a 3.90 or higher grade point average in all electrical or computer engineering courses. The recipient receives an individual plaque.

Austin Allen

My most significant accomplishment is graduating from the University of Florida’s Electrical Engineering program with a GPA above 3.9 while balancing the demanding coursework and my personal responsibilities. As a non-traditional student and Navy veteran, returning to school after such a long break was daunting. I’m very proud of the commitment and discipline it took to accomplish this, and I am immensely grateful to the faculty and classmates who helped me along the way.
Jack I. Benn

When I transferred to UF, I knew the academics would be challenging and that I would need to continue growing to keep up. Not only have I surpassed my highest expectations, but I have also earned a top PhD position here with an exciting research focus. Through hard work and dedication, I have excelled academically and look forward to continuing my research journey.
Gerald H. Bissell

My greatest accomplishment during my time at UF has been the growth I’ve experienced over the past four years. Through my academics, the life-long friendships I’ve made with students and faculty, and the experiences I’ve been fortunate to participate in, I’ve grown not only as a student but as a person. I’m incredibly grateful for the people and opportunities that shaped my time here and made these years truly unforgettable.

Szander Brenner

My greatest accomplishment was taking a dilapidated $800 boat during my senior year of high school and resurrecting it. Over eight grueling but deeply rewarding months, I executed a bow-to-stern restoration. I gutted and rebuilt the rotted floor and transom, rewired the entire electrical system, and rigged a brand-new motor. After a fresh custom paint job and a total trailer overhaul, that sad, forgotten hull was transformed into a sleek, water-ready beauty. It was a massive, hands-on undertaking that proved the value of grit, patience, and creative problem-solving. The first time taking her on the water was an unforgettable memory.
Trung Huu Le

Trung’s most significant accomplishment has been developing strong research experience as an undergraduate, particularly in Optical Computing, Computational Imaging, and Machine Learning. His work throughout the years at UF involves designing Optical Neural Network Accelerators, Photonic Circuit Components, and Logic Gate Neural Networks. Building on these experiences, he plans to continue his higher education through PhD studies at the University of Southern California, where he hopes to further contribute to advances in imaging and intelligent sensing systems.
Chandler Massey

My most significant accomplishment in college has been learning how to balance my academic and personal life. While my time at UF has involved long hours of studying, I have also been fortunate enough to build meaningful friendships within the ECE department and beyond. These relationships have made my college experience far more rewarding and has taught me the importance of leaning on others for support. Although I hope to remember all the information I have learned in school, I believe it is just as important to carry forward the relationships I have made.
Connor Joseph Murphy

My biggest accomplishment at UF was realizing I had to think – and learn – for myself. Overcoming imposter syndrome and the need to please others gave me the freedom to explore my interests in ASIC Design/Verification, Computer Architecture, and Low-Level Programming on my own terms. More than any class or subject, the skill I’ll value most from my time in the ECE department is the agency I’ve developed to chart my own course through my career.
Ryan Nicholas Robinson

My most significant accomplishment has been designing, implementing, and testing a steel billet tracking system during my internship at Commercial Metals Company. By applying the hardware and software engineering knowledge I gained through electrical engineering here at UF, along with my training as an automation engineer, I developed a reliable system that had not previously existed in the facility. The system proved to be highly accurate and even helped detect bar-counting errors, a common issue in steel mills. This experience showed me how strongly UF prepared me to solve real-world engineering problems.
Cole Theriault

My most significant accomplishment while being a Student at the University of Florida is being accepted into the UF in Japan: Cross-Cultural Engineering Design study abroad program. Through this program, I learned about the engineering designs and principles in Japan, enrolled as a temporary student at Kyoto University, and worked alongside fellow UF Students and Kyoto University graduate students to develop a proof-of-concept educational game about natural disaster rescue and recovery.
Isaac H. Yu

During my time in the UF ECE department, I have been actively involved in both undergraduate research and teaching. Through research projects in sensors and photonics, I gained experience applying engineering concepts to real-world problems while exploring new technologies. At the same time, serving as an undergraduate peer instructor allowed me to support fellow students and help make challenging material more approachable. Balancing research and teaching has been especially meaningful to me, as it allowed me to grow technically while also contributing to the learning community within the department.
Xiya Zhou

My most significant accomplishment was the friends I made along the way.
