In a style similar to TED talks, ECE presents two short, 15-minute seminars on Sept. 3. Dr. Greg Stitt and Dr. Joel Harley will both present talks which explore machine learning applications.

Azra Bihorac, M.D. is the R. Glenn Davis Professor of Medicine, Surgery and Anesthesiology in the Division of Nephrology, Hypertension, & Renal Transplantation at the University of Florida. She presents “Augmented Decision Making – How to Implement Machine Learning Prediction into Research and Clinical Care” on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 1:00 pm, in LAR 330.

Dr. Chris Wilson of UF Agronomy and ECE Florida’s Dr. Alina Zare are using hyper-spectral imagery of experimental cow pastures to better understand the ecosystem effects of adding perennial peanut to beef pastures.

Soumyajit Mandal is currently the T. and A. Schroeder Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University, and will join the University of Florida as an Associate Professor in January 2020. He presents “AI-Driven Cognitive Radios for Next-Generation Wireless” on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 1:00 pm, LAR 310.

Dr. Sean Meyn is Professor and Robert C. Pittman Eminent Scholar Chair at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Florida. He presents “An Introduction to the Theory of Reinforcement Learning (and Why It Must Be Zapped!)” Thursday, Nov. 7 at 1:00 pm in LAR 310.

Dr. Fatemeh Ganji is a postdoctoral fellow at the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity (FICS) Research. She presents “Machine Learning for Cybersecurity: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants,” Thursday, Oct. 24 at 1:00 pm, in 310 Larsen Hall.

Dr. Joel Harley is co-PI on a project that combines artificial intelligence and deep learning with materials and chemical science.

Kejun Huang is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering at University of Florida. He presents “Latent Variable Identification using Identifiable Matrix Factorization Methods,” Thursday, Sept. 26 at 1:00 pm in LAR 310.

Dr. Nicholas Napoli (UF ISE) presents “Predicting Human Performance and Systemic Physiology through Multi-Modal Sensing,” Thursday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 pm in LAR 310.

Alina Zare is an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. She presents “Plant Root Analysis with Multiple Instance Learning,” Thursday, Sept. 12 @ 1:00pm.
