The ECE department recently added academic tracks to its graduate curriculum. This pilot program offers students the opportunity to specialize in a particular area of electrical and computer engineering—an incredibly broad and expansive field—without the addition of a minor or a certificate of study.

Scott Morrison specializes in Design Verification (DV) of analog and mixed-signal semiconductor chips at Texas Instruments in Dallas. He presents “The Future of Verifying Complex Analog and Mixed-Signal Semiconductor Chips” Thursday, Sept. 16 at 1:00pm via Zoom.

Dr. Paul Denholm is a principal energy analyst with NREL. He presents “Inertia and the Power Grid: A Guide Without the Spin” Thursday, November 4 at 1:00pm via Zoom.

Thursday, Sept. 2 at 1:00 pm, Damon Woodard presents “”Nowhere to Run, Nowhere to Hide: The Use of Behavioral and Cognitive Information to Establish Identity in Cyberspace.” Dr. Tuba Yavuz presents “Securing the IoT using Model Guided Analysis” at 1:30.

Thursday, Aug. 26, Dr. Christophe Bobda presents “All-a·round Vision” and Dr. Arturo Bretas presents “Towards Cyber-Physical Secure Smart Grid Operation: Challenges in Real-Time System Monitoring.”

Dr. Vladimir Rakov has been awarded a $1M grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for his project, “Lightning Studies Based on Measurements Spanning the Ranges from Radio Frequency to Optical (including Infrared and Ultraviolet) to Gamma-Rays.”

ECE Assistant Professor and member of FICS Research Dr. Farimah Farahmandi has been awarded a $500K grant from DARPA for her project, “Security-Aware High-Level Synthesis (SHINE).”

Michael Dille is a senior computer scientist with KBR at the Intelligent Robotics Group at NASA Ames Research Center. He presents “Robotic Sensing in Extreme Planetary Environments” Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 1:00 pm via Zoom.

ECE Assistant Professor Najme Ebrahimi has received a 2021 DARPA Young Faculty Award in support of her project, “Miniaturized and Power-Efficient MMW Arrays with Precise Electrical and Thermal Optimization for Future Low-Cost Standardization.”
