Jaume Segura is a professor at the University of the Balearic Islands where he leads the Electronic Systems Group. He presents “European Reaction to the Chips Shortage: The EU Chips Act” Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Noon in MALA 5050.

2024 was nothing short of transformative for UF ECE, with groundbreaking new research initiatives, an amazing new building, incredible support for faculty, and many prestigious awards.

The CHIP Lab, led by Dr. Hamed Dalir, has received $435,000 in funding from SRC to enhance photonic integrated circuits (PICs) and ferroelectric-tunable transparent conductive materials for high-performance computing applications.

Dr. Hamed Dalir has received funding to advance research on a “Novel Long-Range Acoustic Method for Decadal Monitoring of Plugged and Abandoned (P&A) Wells.” This groundbreaking project aims to revolutionize the monitoring of P&A wells using advanced acoustic techniques.

ECE Assistant Professor Yingying Wu has received a $546k NSF CAREER Award in support of her project, “Transforming Quantum Spintronics with Novel 2D Magnetic Transistors and Diodes.” This project will focus on creating new quantum hardware devices like magnetic transistors and diodes that use skyrmions.

Dr. Michael Y. Frankel is a Ciena Fellow and until recently was senior director of network technologies at Ciena. He presents “Digital Twin Technology Applied to Future Communication Network Design” Friday, Jan. 10 at 11:00am in MALA 5050.

In a transformational year for the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Florida, more than $160M in funding for semiconductor research was secured in 2024.

ECE Assistant Professor Md Jahidul Islam has been named the Yangbin Wang Rising Star Professor, a recognition of his cutting-edge research and impactful student mentoring. Dr. Islam becomes the twentieth ECE faculty member to be supported by an endowed professorship.
