The University of Florida will lead one of seven regional hubs of a new, $285 million nationwide institute dedicated to advancing America’s semiconductor industry through next-generation simulations known as digital twins.

Dr. Roozbeh Tabrizian has been selected to be inducted as a 2024 Rising Star by the Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine of Florida. The organization honored Tabrizian for “pioneering advancements in semiconductor nano-electro-mechanical systems enabling transformative innovations in microwave spectral processing and precision timekeeping.”

The National Institutes of Health has granted ECE Assistant Professor Adam Khalifa a $1.5M New Innovator Award, securing research funding that could revolutionize invasive surgical implants and improve understanding for disease detection.

Dr. Chet Lenox is Fellow and VP of the Industry and Customer Collaboration (ICC) Team at KLA. Bryan Crawford is the KLA Nanoindenter Product Marketing Manager. They both present on Friday, Nov. 8 beginning at 11:45am in MALA 7200.

Silvia Ferrari is the John Brancaccio Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Cornell University and associate dean for cross-campus engineering research at Cornell Tech. She’ll present “Information-driven Robot Planning and Control” Thursday, Nov. 21 at 2:00pm in the NVIDIA Auditorium in Malachowsky Hall.

Dr. Kan Li is a research scientist at the University of Florida. He presents “Kernel Operator-Theoretic Bayesian Filter for Nonlinear Dynamical Systems” Thursday, Nov. 7 at 1:00pm in MALA 5050.

Luqiao Liu is an associate professor of electrical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He presents “Controllable Antiferromagnetic Spintronics” Thursday, Oct. 31 at 1:00pm in MALA 5050.

Distinguished Professor Mark Law has received funding from the Army Research Office for his project “ColdPhase: Improved Junctions and Circuits.” The $425k project works to develop a combined tool with process and device modeling capability for Josephson Junction stacks based on NbTiN deposited using either PEALD or reactive sputtering.

Dr. Sayan Mitra is a professor and associate head of graduate affairs in ECE and he directs the Reliable Autonomy research group at the University of Illinois. He presents “Control with Coarse Measurements: Perception Contracts and Indistinguishable Sets” Monday, Oct. 28 at 2:00pm in MALA 7200.
