ECE ‘star Gator’ Farimah Farahmandi wins 40 Under 40 alumni award
March 5, 2026Farimah Farahmandi, Ph.D., Walden C. Rhines Endowed Professor for Hardware Security and associate director of the Florida Institute for Cybersecurity, has received UF’s 40 Under 40 alumni award. In April, Farahmandi will also receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from UF’s Department of Computer & Information Science & Engineering.

New Hastings gift endows third Faculty Fellow
November 17, 2025University of Florida engineering alumnus and Texas Instruments Fellow Alan Hastings has added another donation for a new Faculty Fellow within the College of Engineering’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE).

New Power Electronics Lab Honors ECE Alumnus, Powers Teaching & Research
October 3, 2025Monolithic Power Systems, manufacturer of small, highly energy efficient, easy-to-use industrial power management solutions, formally dedicated a named lab space in Benton Hall on Thursday, Oct. 2. The newly renovated lab space is designed to strengthen the department’s research and teaching capabilities in the area of power electronics, while enhancing opportunities for collaboration.

With $650 and Determination, UF ECE Alumnus Created the Digital Computer
August 1, 2025History has come to show that it was in 1937 that an alumnus of the University of Florida Electrical Engineering Department, John Vincent Atanasoff, went for a lonely drive and, in a bar, scribbled on a cocktail napkin the beginning pillars of modern computing, and in doing so, invented the digital computer.

ECE Honors 2025 Hall of Fame Inductees & Distinguished Alumni Awardees
April 28, 2025After much deliberation and planning, department leadership proudly inducted the 2025 class of the ECE Hall of Fame at a gala celebration held in Malachowsky Hall on Monday, April 21. Sachio Semmoto Chair of ECE Mark Tehranipoor led the celebration—joined by members of the inaugural class of the Hall of Fame and luminaries from the ECE Florida family—to celebrate the induction of four Electrical & Computer Engineering alumni to this august group.

Yangbin Wang Honored as UF Distinguished Alumnus at Spring Commencement
May 17, 2024Yangbin Wang (MSEE ’93) has been presented with the Distinguished Alumnus Award at the University of Florida Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Spring 2024 bachelor’s recognition ceremony. Distinguished alumnus awards are presented to an alumna or an alumnus of the university who has excelled in their chosen field and has performed outstanding service for the university.
