Dr. Moncef Gabbouj is a professor of information technology at the Department of Computing Sciences, Tampere University, Tampere, Finland. He presents “The Super Neuron Model—A new generation of ANN-based Machine Learning and Applications” Thursday, Nov. 3 at 3:30pm in NEB 409.

Dr. Fahad Sohrab is a postdoctoral research fellow at the SAMI research group in the Department of Computing Sciences at Tampere University, Finland. He presents “Subspace learning for one-class classification” Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 3:30pm in Larsen Hall 234.

Michael J. Wardlaw heads the Maritime Sensing Group at the Office of Naval Research (ONR), funding naval S&T in acoustic and non-acoustic sensing technologies for anti-submarine warfare and mine warfare. He presents “Predict Before Detect: An Opportunity for More Resource-Efficient Sensing” Thursday, Oct. 27 at 1:00pm.

ECE Assistant Professor Shreya Saxena has received funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in support of her project, “Elucidating Principles of Sensorimotor Control using Deep Learning.” The research objective of this $1M BRAIN Initiative proposal is to develop biologically-inspired goal- and data- driven artificial intelligence methods to elucidate the neurodynamical basis of sensorimotor control.

A dedicated group of ECE Florida alumni joined current staff and faculty members recently to honor the memory of Bill Wagner, teaching faculty and manager of ECE undergraduate teaching labs from 1985 to 2002.

Dr. Krishnendu Chakrabarty is currently the John Cocke Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Professor of Computer Science at Duke University. He presents ‘Enabling the New Semiconductor Revolution: Emerging Technologies and 3D Integration’ Thursday, Sept. 15 at 1:00pm.

Faculty members from the ECE Department are collaborating with researchers from the Engineering Education Department (EED) and the College of Education (CoE) on a new NSF project, Innovating Quantum-Inspired Learning for Undergraduates in Research and Engineering.

ECE Assistant Professor Farimah Farahmandi has received funding from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) in support of her three-year project, “SVH: Security Verification of Heterogenous Integration.”

Dr. Evelyn Hu is the Tarr-Coyne Professor of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering at the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard. She presents “Composing a Life” Thursday, Sept. 22 at 4:00pm at Reitz Union 2355.
